Chai Vineyard: Mosaic of Colored Glass Reflects Vibrant Vineyard Flavor

Day and night, the colorful carved glass artwork of Steve Linn brightens the Chai vineyard. For many years, Linn’s technique of deep carving glass through sandblasting was nearly impossible because the thick, strong glass required to withstand the tough process was not available. However, with the use of Vanceva® color interlayers for laminated glass, Linn was finally able to complete this stunning project.

The piece is visible from both the exterior and the interior of the Chai. During the day, sunlight plays on the glass and highlights a mosaic of colored glass pieces with all the details of the carving visible. At night, artificial lighting emanating from the interior creates the opposite effect. The finished piece reflects the colorful landscape of the vineyard, an effect which was achieved through the use of an assembled pastiche of photographs taken to highlight the details of the countryside. Visitors to the vineyard encounter not only the wonderful wines of the chateau, but this enchanting optical experience as well.

Reflecting the ambiance of the vineyard, the work is a mixture of glass, bronze, and wood. The glass, containing the rich hues of the Vanceva® color system for laminated glass, was carved and sandblasted, then framed by bent steel to resemble the leading of stained glass windows. Linn’s projects tend to showcase glass in a way that combats the misconception that it is a fragile, delicate material but still preserves the transparence and luminosity that makes glass so unique. Linn believes that this project in particular “offers a clue to the public about the care and attention that the winemaker gives to both his environment and his product.”

W Hotel – Vivid Colors Create a Unique, Lively Hotel Atmosphere

A stay at the W Hotel inTaipei, Taiwanbecomes an exciting experience thanks to the brilliant use of color throughout. Laminated glass makes a statement in every aspect of the design, from the bathrooms and bedrooms to the hotel’s outer walls. The translucence provided by the use of this material made it possible for the architects to create an open, continuous interior space design that still feels comfortable to residents of the hotel.

No longer do the suites at the W conform to the typical austere design used by so many hotels. Instead, laminated glass in a misty color inspired by the soft light of Chinese lanterns has replaced lackluster white doors and clear glass partitions. Combined with soft lighting and punctuated with other laminated glass elements in colors like vivid orange, bright green and deep red, the space becomes even more exciting and diverse.

The designers of the W Hotel tried several different options before settling on the use of Vanceva® interlayers for laminated glass to color their space. Vanceva® afforded the architects beautiful design without having to sacrifice the commitment to safety that the hotel owners desired. The end result is a stunning mix of neutral and colorful elements that blend together smoothly, providing visitors with the most comfortable stay possible.

Scribante Construction Workshop & Offices – Bold Tangerine Awnings Brighten Neutral Office Building

The civil construction industry tends to be very industrial and rigid, but the architects of these offices sought to add some color in an otherwise very neutral palette. Their solution came in the form of one of the boldest colors on the color spectrum: bright tangerine.

Color is an important part of both a building’s character and a company’s public face. As the client’s corporate color, a bright orange hue was the perfect choice to highlight the entrance of the building. At first, the client expressed hesitation at the idea of using such a strong, bold color for the entrance. However, its contrast with the natural earthy tones throughout the rest of the building allows the tangerine to be a tasteful pop of color.

Other Vanceva® colors such as golden yellow, coral rose, and sapphire blue were used in moderation to complement the orange awnings. These colorful glass accents give the space a unique and exciting energy that perfectly expresses the company’s character.
